Hang a right on Hwy 194 just before you get into the main part of Boone, and 11 miles of curvy road brings you to 'downtown' Todd. Comprised of just a few buildings and businesses, Todd offers shopping and art, as well as outdoor and cultural activities.
River Girl Fishing Co. offers fly fishing, kayak, bike, and tube rentals, plus a plethora of animals, including the unofficial 'mayor' of Todd! There's also the Todd General Store, Todd Mercantile and Bakery, the Post Office, a few churches, an outdoor stage for musical groups, and an art gallery. Although there's no hotels or restaurants, there are plenty of cabin and house rentals throughout the area, and since it's just a short drive from Boone, it's well worth a day trip.
Check it out! "Todd is located in the High Country of North Carolina between Boone and West Jefferson and is a community situated in a bend of the South Fork of the New River. History, outdoor recreation, music, arts and a sense a community make Todd a wonderful place to live and visit."
I'm a bit biased, as I've spent time in Todd during every summer of my life, but it really is a special little town. Keep Todd Odd!
